Olly Alexander has broken his silence with a message of “pride” after losing at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The singer and actor put on an enigmatic – albeit controversial – performance in Malmo, but failed to claw his way up the leaderboard. However he has clearly taken it like water off a duck’s back and shared his thoughts on being a part of the contest.
Sharing a photo of winner Nemo, from Switzerland, Olly said: “Nemo! You did it!

“I’m so so proud of you. It’s been such an honour to be on this journey with you. You broke the code!”
Olly’s positive message gave a nod to Nemo’s winning song, The Code. The powerful song, which included operatic elements, is about Nemo coming to terms with their non-binary identity.
Sadly for Olly, he received a devastating blow when the scores came in. He scored 46 points from the jury vote, but a crushing zero from the audience vote.
There was an overriding air of anger surrounding Olly’s performance from many viewers at home. His stage saw him dancing in a dirty bathroom with four shirtless male dancers.
There were conversations online about how appropriate it was for a family show, while others went as far as likening the performance to “gay porn”. However others jumped to It’s A Sin star Olly’s defence, questioning whether the hatred aimed at him was actually due to homophobia.
Meanwhile, others suggested Olly’s loss was down to weak vocals on the night when compared to the acts at the top of the leaderboard. Either way, it appears Olly is pleased to have been part of the show.
