TV fans have been left baffled and annoyed with hit show, Only Fools and Horses as they claim there is evident holes in the plot.
The hit BBC show starring David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst offered viewers a barrel of laughs as they followed the lives of working class brothers Derek “Del Boy” Trotter and Rodney. Kickstarting in 1981 the show came to an official end in 2003.
But lovers of the sitcom have noticed that there are some discrapancies with the character’s history as they claim it often changes as the series goes on. Sharing their views on Reddit’s r/OnlyFoolsAndHorses community, fans have noticed that the script writers haven’t stayed consistent with the character’s ages and some of their relationships with one another.

Sharing their grievances on a Reddit post called Plot Holes in OFAH, u/ConnorK12 said: “Rodney’s date of birth, Del’s age and the time their Mum died change all over the place through the series. Sometimes Rodney remembers days out with his Mum, other times she’s just, ‘This blonde lady that was there and then wasn’t’. That one annoys me.”
Referring to the episodes, one other user discussed the evident confusion with Derek’s younger brother and the age he was in the show. Eagle-eyed u wrote on the thread: “Rodney’s age. He says he’s 22 in ‘Big Brother’ but 26 or so in ‘The Unlucky Winner is.’ So only four years have passed since the events of the first episode?”
While others also complained about the connection between characters, u/Fair-Difficulty-7376 said: “One that bugs me: Rodney’s father Freddy The Frog, Del Boy asks around if anyone remembers Freddy and none of them remember. Then in the final episode, Rodney finds a photo of all the gang in a photo of Freddy and Del recounts that Freddy was a horrible man even though he never met him and everyone who spoke of Freddy said he was a kind generous man.”
And u/kittybeth666 said: “The first episode apparently shows Rodney meeting Trigger for the first time. However it’s later established he’s been friends with Del since school so surely he would have met him before.”
Despite the inaccuracies, sitcom is still well-loved by many. And with a show that spanned 64 episodes, it’s understandable that a few details may have slipped through the net.
