Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black first aired on Netflix back in 2013 and the cast played a bunch of female convicts.
But they aren’t all totally innocent in real life either, as some of the stars have gotten into some trouble in their own lives. While the incarcerated characters make for great storylines for TV, the actresses’ lives off the small screen are just as turbulent.
Nicky Nichols star Natasha Lyonne, 45, suffered years of substance abuse-related issues when she was younger, but fortunately managed to turn her life around.

In a previous interview, she said: “I was definitely as good as dead,” she noted after dealing with drug abuse. The star was also given DUI in 2001.

Several years later, she was forced to endure a hospital stay after suffering from hepatitis C and a collapsed lung. She added: “A lot of people don’t come back. That makes me feel wary and self-conscious. I wouldn’t want to feel prideful about it. People really rallied around me and pulled me up by my f***ing bootstraps.”
OITNB bad girl Pennsatucky Doggett was played by Taryn Manning, who has had her fair share of drama in the past few years.
In 2014, Taryn filed stalking charges against her former roommate Jeanine Heller received an order of protection. However, RadarOnline.com later revealed those charges were dismissed per a plea deal.

Heller was subsequently awarded her own temporary restraining order against the actress after allegedly receiving death threats from the star. Heller commented at the time: “It was really traumatic for myself and for my family.
“I never stalked Taryn. I never harassed Taryn. Like I said, it was back and forth arguing to get her stuff out of my place. I never threatened her or said anything angry. But what I received was shocking.”
In 2023, Taryn also openly admitted to having an affair with a married man,after his spouse had allegedly threatened her with a restraining order.
She released a video where she directed to the wife “Don’t you ever threaten me,” but took the video down laters later. Reflecting on the situation, Taryn wrote: “I made mistakes by discussing personal matters publicly. I should have handled this privately with the support of my close ones.”

Dascha Polanco was arrested in 2015 after Michelle Cardona claimed that the star hit her in “the face and head with a closed fist at least three times,” according to court docs.
Cardona was taken to the hospital for “bruising and redness to her face, scratches to her arms, and substantial pain” in the wake of the incident. However, Dascha claimed that she was a victim of extortion by Cardona, who was just 17 at the time of the incident.
Dascha accepted a plea deal, prosecutors dropped the charges made against her and her record was expunged, on the basis she would stay out of trouble for six months.

Lolly Whitehill star Lori Petty was nicked back in 2009 on suspicion of DUI after she hit a skateboarder with her vehicle.
The actress eventually pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of DUI and received five years of informal probation. Lori was also told to follow outpatient treatment, attend AA classes and pay up to $1,500 (£1,160) in fines.

Makeup queen Flaca star Jackie Cruz was a fan fave on OITNB, but her makeup wasn’t the only hot and heavy element around during the night she was caught having a steamy make-out session with reality star Kourtney Kardashian.
The encounter took place back in 2008 while Kourtney was filming for the family’s spin-off show ‘Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami’. She locked with Jackie, who she labelled as “carefree and fun”.
Kourtney revealed she later regretted the move and said: “I’m so embarrassed. I can never talk to this girl again.”
