P Diddy was raised Catholic and served as an altar boy.
The rapper reportedly attended an all boys Catholic high school in the Bronx, New York City. Diddy, real name Sean Combs, is listed as one of the school’s “notable alumni” alongside architect George Ranalli, actor Lillo Brancato, Jersey Shore’s Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and The Wire’s Andre Royo.
Combs graduated from the school in 1987 and attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. The rapper didn’t complete his degree but became well known around campus for throwing huge parties, later becoming famous around Hollywood for the same thing.

Combs went on to send his oldest son Justin to a Catholic school. He was an exceptional athlete at Iona Prep, New York and after graduating, the music mogul’s son played football with UCLA.
In April 2016, US News reported that P Diddy was “behind the creation of a new charter school set to open in Harlem” that same year. Although Combs was raised Catholic, he appears to no longer identify with any religion.
In 2008 he told The Daily Telegraph: “I just follow right from wrong, so I could pray in a synagogue or a mosque or a church. I believe that there is only one God.” In a 2023 interview, P Diddy explained that he believes “God is a woman”.
“You know, I stepped away for a little bit, went through a lot of things in life and then just got that call one day from God, and she was like: ‘It’s time.’ Her voice sounds way better than that, though. More godly though, but it was God as a woman, so she was like: ‘It’s time,’ and I was like: ‘It’s time.’”
Diddy said the voice of God inspired him to music: “I was like: ‘I wanna make RnB, because I was asking myself the question: ‘If you had to do one thing for the rest of your life, what would you do?’ And that would be mak[ing] music. Would it bring you joy? Make music? Would this help you to have a positive effect on the world? And that would be music.”
Combs explained that he “wasn’t doing music” and so “from that second on,” he decided to “jump headfirst” into a new project.
