Pop icon’s obsessive stalker ‘crawled through dog flap and took snaps of his bedroom’

Chesney Hawkes was stalked by an obsessive fan who squeezed her way through his pet flap and crawled into his bedroom.

The One And Only singer, 52, also endured stalking from a huge bloke who looked like The Incredible Hulk and threatened his family and wife after he made it big in the 1990s.

Referring to the Netflix drama about an unhinged female fan, he told the Daily Star Sunday: “I’ve had a few Baby Reindeer moments. In the early days, I had this girl when there were people camping outside my parents’ house.

“Then she had these pictures developed and came back and handed them to me and asked me to sign them!

“I was like, ‘Hang on, that’s my bedroom.’ But people are strange, eh?”

He added things got more serious when he was hounded by a body-building type who threatened to “go and see his wife” when he was away touring.

Chesney, who was born in Windsor, Berkshire and married his American girlfriend Kristina Hawkes in 1997, added: “My worst stalker I had was a guy, who was just this really big body-builder type of guy, and he stalked me and my family and terrified us.

“He was threatening to come into my house while I wasn’t there and knew exactly where I was at all times.

“He would send me messages saying, ‘I’m going to see your wife now’, and it was pretty scary.

“I had to get the police involved – and it was pretty scary.”

Chesney is set to play the Reminisce Festival on Saturday September 7 in St Helens, Liverpool.

Reminisce is now in its 10th year and is billed as an all-day celebration of ’90’s “old school club tunes and pop”, with other acts this year including Five, Damage, N Trance and Oceanic.

Dad-of-three Chesney added despite his stalker nightmares he now loves meeting his old fans and stopping for selfies on the street.

He said: “I do still get stopped on the street. It kind of depends whether I have my hair cut short or whether I have it like it was in the ’90s.

“I do get stalked, but these days a lot of people are nice and lovely and are just up for a selfie. I don’t mind it at all – I’m definitely a people person. I don’t mind it at all.

“Lot of these fans have stuck with me for 30 years of whenever it was from the first song.

“I see them at gigs and I see them a lot. They always come to important gigs. “And I see people I haven’t seen for 20 years – and I see them and go, ‘Oh, how are you?’

“And these were teenage girls and now they’re middle-aged mothers. It’s amazing to see these people and it’s a full life experience.”
