Pop star John Newman turned down ‘every single’ reality show after second tumour diagnosis

One chart-topping pop star has opened up about his health battles.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Star, John Newman spoke about his career and revealed that he has previously had “every single offer” to go on “every single TV show” in the UK.

The singing star had a massive hit with “Love Me Again” which was used in hit Tom Cruise film “Edge of Tomorrow” and had a number one with Rudimental’s “Feel the Love”.

He explained: “I found out I had a second tumour and it went very, very much out there and it felt like my job was moving more away from music and more into being a celebrity. I like to tell you, I got every single offer to do every single show.”

“But it’s not what I’m here for, and I hope people don’t see this in a bad way, but I am a music artist. I am more of an artist than just a pop singer. I am purely a producer, a songwriter and an artist and I believe in art, in that way, in a creative way. I personally don’t feel that they need to interact […] I don’t feel like I need to be a celebrity. I don’t need that.”

When asked what he’d be doing if he wasn’t an artist, John admitted it was “funny” as he “asks himself this question a lot”. Newman said there is “so much pressure” in his career which makes life “very turbulent”.

“I would say, I don’t know, it would be something creative. I really liked designing things. I like designing clothes. I think the [job] that stands out the most to me is that I live creatively, looking at housing and development and design in that way. I think I’d probably be doing something more in that [realm] now as I’ve grown. I really enjoy doing that now, in my own house or for other people. Yeah, so maybe architecture or designing properties or something like that!”

Newman rose to fame in the 2010s with smash hits like Love Me Again and Losing Sleep, which means he has a number of wild celebrity stories to tell: “To pick one would be difficult. Whether it be drinking drinks out of a shoe in a Las Vegas club or in dressing rooms with Rudimental, there’s been so many so many stories.”
