Rachel Weisz admits on-screen romance with Rachel McAdams was ‘easy’ after ‘history’

Rachel Weisz has confessed that she didn’t need to “force chemistry” with “beautiful” co-star Rachel McAdams.

Back in 2017, the pair played lovers in the romantic drama Disobedience and Weisz opened up about filming with McAdams in an interview with E!.

She said: “We were in love, there was this history, we’d known each other since childhood. It just happened. You can’t force chemistry! It’s either there [or not], I mean she’s very easy to be in love with. She’s a beautiful, beautiful person, inside and out, I feel really blessed to have a partner in her.”

She also commented on their particular working styles and said: “It ended up coming out that we actually work in a very similar way, neither of us like to sit down and analyse and talk about it. We just kind of get on and do it. Between action and cut […] the story was so powerful.”

The 2017 film follows the story of a woman named Ronit who returns to her very strict Orthodox Jewish community after many years away. She attends her fathers funeral despite being estranged from her parent and the rest of her community.

At first, it is not revealed why but hints at her sexuality soon become clear. Ronit, played by Rachel Weisz, has an upsetting conversation about her father and at the end she shares a kiss with Esti, her childhood friend played by Rachel McAdams.

Esti admits that she wanted to see Ronit again in the wake of her father’s passing and confesses she is unhappy in her marriage. It is later revealed the pair were caught in a romantic situation when they were younger, which led to Ronit’s flee to New York.

Later in the movie, the childhood friends kiss once again in a park where they are spotted by two people who report what they have seen. Esti gets in trouble at work but this does nothing to dissuade her feelings and the pair sneak off to a hotel room together.

Her feelings for Ronit spill over into her marriage as she denies her husband’s advances before she eventually tells him about her true feelings, but matters complicate further when Esti discovers she is pregnant with her husband’s child.
