Richard Madeley fans joked that he had an “accidental Partridge” moment as he went into a seriously detailed description of his new murder mystery book – in which he said the victim was “very dead”.
The Good Morning Britain host has written a revenge thriller called Father’s Day, and opened up about it on The Michael Ball Show on BBC Radio 2. But the way he talked about it had some people likening the star to comedy broadcaster character Alan Partridge.
During his interview, Richard launched into a lengthy synopsis and explained that the opening of the story takes place in a Roman amphitheatre – then proceeded to go into a long sidebar about the real structure it was based on and how many people it could seat when it was built.

He then shared how in the story police exploring the area discovered some wood positioned like a crucifix. “There is a man who has been crucified,” he teased. “And he is very dead.”
“He is upside down. And that’s the way the Romans crucified St Peter. And other saints.”
Despite saying it was “no plot spoiler”, the star then proceeded to share that the man was “a 40-something internet troll”, who he lived with and how he liked to gatecrash girls’ chat rooms.
A clip of Richard talking about the book was shared on X by someone who referenced Partridge as they teased: “Richard Madeley explaining the plot of his new crime novel on Radio 2 just now is two minutes of pure joy, and the most @AccidentalP thing I have ever heard.” Radio star Greg James was among those to respond, quipping: “Other saints are available.”
“I lost it at ‘St Peter, and other Saints’,” someone else said, adding: “He does it on purpose, I’m sure.” “‘…a Roman amphitheatre, just outside Cirencester…’ Was expecting him to give directions,” laughed another listener.
Others were amused by the fact that the TV star described the murder victim as being “very” dead. “Standout lines: ‘He’s very dead’,” said one. Another posted: “Thanks for the laugh. Really needed that.” “OMG this is brilliant! Not just dead – VERY dead!” exclaimed another fan.
“‘No plot spoilers’ *explains the full plot*” giggled someone else. “Hahahaha that is pure gold,” laughed another listener. “Everyday is accidental Partridge day when Madeley is on,” said somebody else.
Richard recently revealed that the book took him a whopping five years to finish because he’s so busy on Good Morning Britain, and admitted that he “missed deadline after deadline” as he worked on it.
“I thought I could do it in the morning and write in the afternoon, but you know what it’s like, it’s like you have got jetlag,” he said during an interview on This Morning. “So it took me a long time – about five years.”
