EXCLUSIVE: Co-owner of the Fat Boar – the establishment Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum rocked up to – spilled the beans on the stars’ visit and insisted they were ‘classy’
Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum paid a visit to a Wrexham pub last night – and promptly got the beers in.
Reynolds, 48, famously purchased Wrexham AFC in November 2020 alongside fellow Hollywood star Rob McElhenney – turning round the club’s fortunes and becoming subjects of Disney documentary Welcome to Wrexham. Since then it’s become “the norm” to see A-listers wandering around the Welsh city according to Rich Watkin who owns the Fat Boar, where Reynolds and his entourage visited last night.
“It was Friday night in the lead up to Christmas – so the pub was busy,” Watkin told the Daily Star. “We got the call that Ryan Reynolds was planning to visit the Fat Boar and from there we had about 20 minutes before he arrived. It was probably best that way so we didn’t have time to overthink things.”
Watkin, who has owned the Fat Boar pub since it opened nine years ago, said there was “a real buzz in the atmosphere” when Hollywood rocked up on his doorstep. “The first thing we needed to do was decide where they could sit so they could have a meal – luckily there was a bit where they could be without too much interference.
“Obviously we want to talk to them – everyone wants to talk to them – but from a business perspective we just want them to eat and enjoy themselves. That was probably the hardest part, making sure people kept away just while they finished their meal.”
Reynolds was clearly taken with the pub’s grub – so much so he announced he’d buy “a round for everyone in here”. Clips of the Deadpool star addressing jubilant onlookers inside the pub with the promise of a free drink did the rounds on social media.

“That was a classy move by him,” said Watkin. “He could so easily just have disappeared out the back door, but instead he put some money behind the bar and came out to speak. It’s obviously great for business, for people to see them in this pub.”
Another video doing the rounds on social media showed Reynolds filming a message for a school kid after running into his teachers at the Fat Boar as they enjoyed at Xmas party. “I’m here hanging out with…erm”, before panning to a table of cheering women. “Those are your school teachers…and they’re all giving you the best marks you’ll ever get.”
Reynolds and pal Channing Tatum posed with fans inside the Fat Boar alongside It Ends With Us star Brandon Sklenar after the group flew in via private jet to watch Wrexham AFC play.
The star joked to the pub: “After that I’m going to get the f*** out of here, I’ve got four kids,” before adding: “And I’m also very excited about tomorrow – I hope you’ll all be watching and, you know, up the town, right.”
He added: “We’re probably bussing another 100 people in as we speak. If I don’t come and visit each and every one of you in your homes tonight, I just want to say happy holidays.”
The Dragons take on Cambridge at the Racecourse Ground this afternoon, with Phil Parkinson’s side currently second on goal difference behind League One leaders Wycombe.
