Paul Cattermole was reportedly “near poverty” before he sadly passed away at the age of 46.
The S Club 7 band member sadly passed away on April 6, 2023 and it’s been said that pop star died “without a will and had lots of debts”.
The band shared their plans in February 2023 to get back together for a reunion tour, with Paul hoping to join his old friends Hannah Spearritt, Bradley McIntosh, Tina Barrett, Jo O’Meara, Jon Lee, and Rachel Stevens on stage.

“After eight years it feels amazing to announce that we’re reuniting and performing together again,” the seven-member band told their excited fans at the time. “We’re so excited to bring the S Club party back to our fans across the country to celebrate 25 years of S Club 7. We can’t even believe it’s been so long.

“Music and friendship have always been at the heart of everything that we’ve ever done. We hope everyone can join us for one big party.” Just weeks later, Pauwas found dead at his home in Dorset. According to reporters, the Don’t Stop Movin’ hitmaker was “not doing well financially” when he died. A source told The Sun at the time: “Although it is shocking a member of the group would not be well-off, people who knew Paul might not be surprised by how little he left.”
The insider described it as “absolutely terrible that “S Club made tens or hundreds of millions but Paul died like this, in near poverty.” The report also suggested that the singer left total assets of £35,773, but he had debts and bills over £20,000. This left him with just £15,489 after paying off what he owed.

Paul had previously spoken about his shock at how little the band earned during their heyday in the early 2000s. Despite selling millions of songs worldwide, landing big endorsement deals and appearing on hit TV shows, each band member reportedly only made £150,000 a year. It’s also claimed that their record label pocketed millions from their chart success. Five years ago, Paul confessed on ITV’s Loose Women that he’d hoped to boost his income by appearing on popular reality shows.
“I’ve wanted to be on them – Dancing On Ice, Strictly, the jungle – I’ve wanted to do all those,” he sadly admitted. “But they haven’t wanted me for whatever reason.” In 2019, Paul publicly complained that record executives were earning much more than him or his bandmates.

“The thing people were buying into came from us,” he said angrily. “And to see people get hundreds of millions of pounds and all the credit – no.” He’d also raised the issue at the time that he and his bandmates were “paid a pittance” by Hasbro for an S Club 7 doll collection the company produced.
Paul even consulted tarot cards to predict how each tour date would go down with fans. “I saw wheel of fortune that’s good, that’s good luck. I genuinely did look at the cards. There were other cards as well, ace of clubs passion, new beginnings, your cup over-runeth with genuinely passionate emotion. It’s positivity something to be passionate about.”
