Sarah Jessica Parker “wants to get to know” Edgware – and a whole host of other London Tube stations.
Yep, the Sex and the City icon is obsessed with the London Underground. She’s been starring in a West End production of her play Plaza Suite at the Savoy Theatre along with her husband Matthew Broderick, and now wants to be “completely conversant” with each line of the Underground.
Speaking to What’s On Stage, she gushed: “I want to know Jubilee, Piccadilly, Northern. I want to know Edgware. I want to know all of it, [High] Barnet, whatever. I want all of it and I even found a map store that takes me back to the early maps of the forties. So your system here is so exquisite, you have great public transport.”

But the actress was less than impressed with restaurant opening times in the fair capital, and despite being “deeply in love” with London, she’s not keen on how early places close. She explained: “You have a curtain that comes down at 10.12pm-10.14pm and it’s your big meal of the day and you’re starving and the hustle to get there before you’re holding up an entire staff and a kitchen, which is the last thing we want to do.
“That’s the talk that surrounds the show – ‘Where is our meal tonight?’” It’s thankfully not putting her off returning, however, to her favourite shop in all of London – Timpson in Kensington Station.
In 2019, SJP admitted she’s obsessed with the key-cutting chain, sharing a rather grubby snap of the store front on Instagram. She penned: “Scenes from a rendezvous with a London working husband. Included among them my new favourite wee shop at Kensington High St tube station.”
She told one curious fan that they sell some really great umbrellas – “better than the one I brought from home!” as some baffled social media users questioned why she’d pick such a random shop to declare her love for. One questioned: “Your fave shop is a Timpson’s? There’s about 1000 of them in England!”
Another joked: “I never thought I’d see Timpson’s evoke such emotion.” While a third threw their support behind SJP with the comment: “Why be baffled? If you like something you like it. Happy days.”
The actress added: “The fantastic Van Gogh exhibit at the @tate_britain, discovering the British painter @lynetteyiadomboakye and my hands free brolly holder, which proved necessary as I tried to find my way on foot with help from @citymapper (thanks dear husband for making me install).
“Best of all, time with Matthew. Oh London, there is never enough time.” Hopefully this time Sarah Jessica will have more time to explore the city while she’s starring in her play. The “razor-sharp” comedy is set in a hotel room and follows three couples through hilarious domestic scenes.
