Seasoned festival fans share top 30 creative hacks – including using chewing gum and bin bags

A new study of 1,000 veteran festival goers unveils the top tips for smashing the festival life. Listing the things you can’t go without – including dry shampoo, extra socks, and the golden rule? Always have loo roll!

When it’s about powering through the weekend, a whopping 34% reckon a portable charger is their lifeline, another 34% won’t leave their hairbrush behind, and for 17%, earplugs are the unsung heroes.

And for nearly half, wet wipes are the knight in shining armour – because you never know!

VO5’s putting the glam into camping as they commission this nugget of wisdom for their Festival Edits series a treasure trove of hip guides for festival goers to stay stylish while they’re out enjoying themselves.

Rachel Hawes from VO5 said: “It’s easy not to feel your best at a festival. But people are getting increasingly creative with their routines to stay looking and feeling fresh throughout the camping weekend.”

“While campsites offer options to stick to your usual shower and hair wash routines, it’s also fun to embrace festival life and play with hairstyle trends and outfits among friends, from glitter partings to space buns.”

A new study has revealed that a quarter of festival-goers are itching for a scrub as soon as the first day kicks off, with over half desperate for a lather by the second.

In a bid for cleanliness, 21% rely on a trusty bottle of water and another 10% head to water refill stations for a wash. Even 46% have braved the shower queues at music festivals, enduring an average 22-minute wait just to rinse off.

Paying for fresh festi-locks isn’t off the cards either, with 16% laying down an average of £23.70 at pop-up salons, whilst others prefer a DIY job by their mates, as claimed by 13%.

It turns out hair styling woes are a real gripe for 14% of fun-seekers. Ponytails (45%), French plaits (20%), or a breezy half up half down do (17%) were among the most popular hairdos.

Bubble braids, space bunds and glitter partings were other hair trends attempted to stay looking fresh.

With an eye on fashion, 28% strategize their wardrobe before a weekend jamboree, 36% scrub their hair right before setting off, and 22% get a snippy trim pre-festival.

To cap it off, Rachel Hawes from VO5 shared: “The list of festival hacks proves there are many things music fans can pack to stay feeling fresh including essential toiletries and more unsuspected items such as buckets and bin bags.”

“With more and more festival goers looking to test out fun hair trends this season, we’re on hand to ensure everyone can keep their hair Instagram ready all weekend long.”
