A second man arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in connection with the death of George Gilbey is on bail.
Gogglebox star George tragically died on March 27 after falling through a skylight when working in Shoeburyness, Essex. The 40-year-old’s passing has left his family, friends and fans of the show devastated.
Essex Police said that the 36 year old suspect, arrested on Wednesday (May 1) and from Witham, has since been bailed and inquiries are ongoing. The force previously arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter who was released under investigation.

Essex senior coroner Lincoln Brookes opened and then suspended an inquest while a criminal investigation takes place, reports the Mirror. An inquest hearing held in Chelmsford last month found that Gilbey fell through a skylight while working on a roof, and a a post-mortem examination found his injuries were “consistent with a fall from height.”
At the request of Essex Police, Senior coroner Lincoln Brookes said he would adjourn proceedings for a total of four months. “[Gilbey] was working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight and landed on the ground below,” revealed Deborah Frost, a coroner’s officer, during the hearing.
Mr Gilbey found fame for his appearance on Channel 4’s show Gogglebox. He featured alongside his mother Linda McGarry and stepfather Pete McGarry, who passed away aged 71 in 2021. The reality star also made it to the final of Celebrity Big Brother’s 14th series in 2014.
Linda, the Gogglebox star’s mum, recently shared details about her last conversation with her son. In an interview last week, she recalled that he called her on the morning of his accident.
She said: “He phoned me at 9.30 in the morning and said he was working – and asked me for his ‘breakfast money’. I put £30 in his account so he could get food, and he seemed fine. He had a drink the night before, and liked a bottle of white wine or two, but was happy that he was working. He ended the phone call by saying, ‘I love you’ like he usually did. I treasure those words.”
