Sharon Stone lost £14million after devastating stroke as people ‘took advantage’

Sharon Stone has admitted she lost £14million in savings recovering from a near-fatal stroke.

The Basic Instinct star revealed that she had lost the fortune whilst she was in recovery from the debilitating illness that nearly killed her. However, she added that part of the money disappeared due to people close to her were “taking advantage”.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview released on Tuesday (July 9), Sharon, 66, revealed that she was unable to work due to the severity of the stroke. This caused her to lose a total of $18million (£14m) over two decades, as she tried to get back to normal.

When asked how long it was before she felt a semblance of normality, Stone admitted it took her seven years to mostly recover. She went into detail that she had suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage that nearly killed her in 2001.

“I bled into my brain for nine days, so my brain was shoved to the front of my face,” she explained in the interview. “It wasn’t positioned in my head where it was before.”

She continued: “My sense of smell, my sight my touch; I couldn’t read for a couple of years. Things were stretched and I was seeing colour patterns; a lot people thought I was going to die.”

However, she went on to say that while she remained woozy for years and unable to get back to her normal life, her funds had been mismanaged by those around her. As she fought to regain some of her basic functions like reading, others stepped in and took control of her life.

“People took advantage of me over that time,” Sharon stated. “I had $18million saved because of all my success, but when I got back into my account, it was all gone.

“My refrigerator, my phone – everything was in other people’s names,” she added. “I had zero money.”

Looking back on her recovery period, the actress – who has now managed to break back into the Hollywood movie scene – said how she thinks has been permanently changed. However, there are still parts of her body that are still in recovery from the near-deadly experience.

She explained that her eyes continued to pose problems for her, and that her memory also remained affected, which did impact her ability to get work. However, thankfully Sharon has been able to find new roles, with her most recent film coming in 2023.

Speaking about how she went on to recover so well, Stone admitted: “I decided not to hang onto being sick or to any bitterness or anger. If you bite into the seed of bitterness, it never leaves you.”
