Simon Cowell’s nickname for ‘grumpy and complaining’ X Factor co-stars revealed

Pop star Sinitta has revealed how she and best pal Simon Cowell call Sharon Osborne and Louis Walsh ‘Statler and Waldorf’ after the two moaning muppets.

The 60-year-old, who had a No2 hit with So Macho in 1985, said she and Simon, 64, often joked about the pair, both former X Factor judges, being just like the two heckling pensioners from The Muppet Show.

The muppets, sitting in box seats at a theatre, are known for being cantankerous and are forever heckling performers on stage.

Speaking last week, the singer – who was a guest judge on The X Factor from 2004-2018 – said Simon, who created the show, was her best friend in the world.

The mum-of-two, who took part in I’m a Celeb in 2011, said: “Simon is one of my longest-term friends, and he has always been a very good friend to me.

“In difficult times and at the best times of my life, he’s always been there for me. I don’t see him as much as I’d like to now that he lives in America, but we speak once a week.

‌“We were chatting recently about all the drama of Louis and Sharon being on Celebrity Big Brother. ‌We call them ‘Statler and Waldorf ‘ – the two old Muppets who are always grumpy and complaining.”‌

Sinitta said, however, that Simon was a ‘big softie’ at heart – and that he said he wanted to give Louis and Sharon a call for a catch-up.

‌She said: “Ultimately Simon said ‘I feel bad – I haven’t been in touch with them as much as I should have… I’ll give them a call. ‌He’s a big softie really.”
