Singer Duffy makes surprise ‘return’ after quitting fame due to harrowing ordeal

Legendary voice Duffy has made a return to social media with a motivational message after vanishing from the public eye.

The singer, known for smash hits like Mercy and Warwick Avenue, disappeared from public life just a few years into her career after going through a traumatic ordeal in her personal life. She later came forward with her story in 2020, revealing she had been “raped, drugged, and held captive for several days”.

The 39-year-old still lives out of the public eye, but made somewhat of a return to social media on Monday (March 25). She shared a motivational video in which a man spoke about the secret to happiness.

In it, the voice said: “You’re going to realise it one day, that happiness was never about your degree or your job or relationship. Happiness was all about following in the footsteps of all of those who came before you.

“It was never about being about the others. One day you’re going to see it, that happiness was all about the discovery, the hope, the listening to your heart, and following it wherever it chose to go.”

It went on: “Happiness was all about being kinder to yourself. It was always about embracing the person you were becoming.

“One day you will understand that happiness was always about learning to live with yourself, that your happiness was never in the hands of others. One day you will realise that true happiness comes from within, and no external factors can define it.

“It was always about you. It was always about you.”

In the caption, the singer, real name Aimee Duffy, said: “A little something to motivate the heart on a Monday. Hope you are all doing well. Lots of love, Duffy.”

Her followers flocked to the comments to share their love. One person said: “We miss you Duffy and your beautiful voice.”

Another said: “Love and miss you so much.” A third wrote: “So much love from Wales. We are all behind you Duffy.”

Back in 2020, Duffy returned briefly to the public eye to explain her absence. She said: “I endured the traumatic experience of being raped, drugged, and held captive for several days.”
