During Tuesday’s episode of BBC Breakfast, host Jon Kay had a chat with actor Sir David Jason about his upcoming memoir.
The conversation soon shifted to the BBC sitcom Still Open All Hours, which was put on hold due to Covid in 2019.
Jon pointed out that the cast was ready to film another series before the pandemic halted production as he asked: “It’s still not being made, is there any chance, you think that that could still happen?”
David disclosed: “Roy Clarke who was the original writer of Still Open All Hours and Open All Hours, had already half or three-quarters written a whole series for the last series.”
The actor also shared that two characters from the show were set to tie the knot, among other plotlines being wrapped up, reports the Express.
He continued: “A lot of storylines were left a bit open. It was cancelled originally because of Covid and they thought it would be lovely to wind it all up.
“We all gave it the green light and it went off to the BBC and we’re still waiting.
“So, if anybody is at the BBC and wanted a series that the audiences like, we’ve got it ready! Ready to go and it’s off and running, it’ll be great.”
Jon wondered if he’d enjoy wrapping up the sitcom, to which David agreed as he replied: “It would be nice, also it’ll be lovely to get back with the cast that we had such good fun with.
Still Open All Hours first hit the screens in 2013 and ran for six series until 2019.
The series followed an older Granville, portrayed by David, who was managing his late uncle’s grocery shop with the assistance of his son.
The final episode of Still Open All Hours that viewers saw was a holiday special at the end of 2019 before the show was put on hold.
It depicted Granville’s efforts to bring back the magic of Christmas, but in typical sitcom style, things didn’t go as planned.
Still Open All Hours can be viewed on BBC iPlayer.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
