Slim Shady’s obituary published in newspaper saying ‘may he find peace in afterlife’

Eminem’s ego Slim Shady’s “obituary” has been published in one creepy news article.

The Detroit Free Press newspaper ran the piece for Eminem’s alter ego Slim Shady ahead of the release of his new album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace). In the “obituary”, titled Slim Shady Made Lasting Impressions, he is described as a “controversial rapper” who began his career in the underground rap scene.

“Shady first became a household name in 1999 with the debut of his playfully deranged single My Name Is, which – along with its uniquely eye catching video – exposed the young artist and his lyrics to a wider audience.” The piece went on to say that Shady “led millions of music fans down a road” which “glorified a demonstrably nihilistic worldview”.

Slim’s obituary went on to say that the star’s “tortured and complex existence” has now “come to a close,” while the “legacy he leaves behind is no closer to resolution” than the manner Shady “departed this world.

The final line reads: “May he truly find the peace in an afterlife that he could not find on Earth.” A picture of the article went viral on X/Twitter and Eminem’s fans gathered to share their thoughts on the promotional piece.

One person joked that they’d “never seen this much promo” for Eminem, while others branded the move “creative”. Someone wrote: “Man, Eminem always got some wild album concepts. RIP Slim Shady, but we all know Em’s got like nine lives when it comes to his music personas. Can’t wait to see what he’s cooked up.”

More Eminem followers left him flame emojis in appreciation while one person wrote: “[Not going to lie,] I’m excited for that,” as another branded him a GOAT and a third simply quipped “love it”.

A shocked Eminem fan replied: “OMG don’t scare me like this,” with a crying emoji as they assumed the article was about the rapper himself. Eminem’s new album is scheduled to release some time this year, as confirmed by Dr Dre back in March.

The iconic rapper is known for his legendary singles such as Without Me, Rap God, Lose Yourself, The Real Slim Shady and Mockingbird.
