Star Trek icon dies as heartbroken ex-wife shares touching tribute to sci-fi legend

Star Trek icon Gary Graham has sadly died at the age of 73, his ex-wife has confirmed.

Susan Lavelle posted a tribute to the actor, who also appeared in Alien Nation, but did not confirm his cause of death. She wrote: “It is with deep profound sadness to say that Gary Graham, my ex husband, amazing actor and father of our beautiful only child together, Haylee Graham, has passed away today.

“We are completely devastated especially our daughter Haley. His wife, Becky was by his side.”

She went on: “I met Gary when I was just 20 years old and he was one half of the star duo on the tv series, Alien Nation. But he had already been in movies like All The Right Moves with Tom Cruise. Of course, Gary has many more credits.

“Gary was funny, sarcastic sense of humour but kind, fought for what he believed in, a devout Christian and was so proud of his daughter, Haylee.”

Sharing snaps of the late star, Susan added: “This was sudden so please pray for our daughter as she navigates through this thing called grief. Fly high into the heavens Gar! Thank you for our journey and thank you for the gifts you left me in acting, my love of horses and most importantly, our daughter.”

Gary was known for playing Ambassador Soval in Star Trek: Enterprise, and had roles in everything from Robot Jox to MANTIS. He also appeared in various Star Trek spin-offs, including Voyager, in which he played Tanis.

The Long Beach-born actor was also a keen musician, playing in bands like The Sons of Kirk and The Gary Graham Garage Band in his younger years. Tributes have been pouring in for him online, with one X user writing: “Sadly, Gary Graham has passed away. He played a variety of roles in Star Trek most notably the recurring role of Soval, the Vulcan ambassador to Earth in Star Trek: Enterprise.”

Someone else posted: “So sad to hear of the passing of Gary Graham. I was fortunate enough to spend some time with him in London, and I also sang with his band a few times. My condolences go out to his family.”

Another paid tribute with the post: “Gary Graham, perhaps known best for his portrayals of Matt Sikes on the Alien Nation TV series and Soval on #StarTrek: Enterprise, has passed away. Our paths crossed here and there at cons and he was always approachable and appreciative to his fans. RIP, sir.”
