Steps hits are being turned into a musical but Claire Richards has no desire to 5,6,7,8 herself.
Over the years Claire has appeared on various TV shows from The Masked Singer to Celebrity Big Brother but she draws the line at Dancing on Ice or Strictly.
She told me: “I broke my wrist ice skating when I was kid, and I just hate ice skating, no I’d never do Dancing On Ice…not now.” Unlike her bandmate Faye Tozer, Strictly would be a disaster for Claire who struggles following those complex Steps moves: “We all love getting dressed up in sequins and getting your hair and make-up done and so for that it’s perfect but it’s a shame you have to do dancing!

“I can kind of pick up a dance routine, but I am not a trained dancer and the thought of doing something I am not that great at in front of all those people terrifies me.”
Steps are on a break but their music will be heard in new Birmingham stage show, Here & Now in November. Classics such as Tragedy, 5,6,7,8, Heartbeat and Chain Reaction are used in the production to tell a love story.
The band said: “We’ve searched for the perfect story for our music and we’ve found it in the aisle of a seaside superstore, where four friends set out on their own Summer of Love.
“It’s a story of friendship, romance and community; packed with our biggest hits and sure to have everybody laughing, crying and dancing in the aisles.”
There are plans for a West End run too but Claire is too busy with a solo career to get involved. After reaching No2 with recent album Euphoria, she said: “We’re still in the glow of Euphoria and it went so well, we all loved doing it so there’ll be more of that.”
Catch Claire at London’s Mighty Hoopla in June.
