Strictly Come Dancing winner ‘decided’ after judges give away ‘telling sign’

The Strictly Come Dancing panel didn’t hold back as they made bold predictions during Saturday’s Movie Week extravaganza.

EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick, teamed up with Michelle Tsiakkas, absolutely nailed a quickstep routine to Elton John’s banger ‘I’m Still Standing’ from the hit flick Rocketman.

At 30 years old Jamie, known to millions as Jay Brown, was barely recognisable sporting a dazzling get-up fit for a Rocket Man himself, including some snazzy, blingy shades.

Post-performance, judging heavyweight Anton Du Beke couldn’t resist hyping up Jamie: “You know, you really are a super super dancer. I think you could be one of the favourites to lift the trophy to be quite honest with you, I think you are an exceptional talent.”

Fellow judge Motsi Mabuse chimed in, very much mirroring Anton, saying “Yes, Anton, I think the Glitterball is quite close to you! ” Such comments from the judges seemed a solid nudge-wink that Jamie could well be strutting towards victory, reports the Mirror.

Cue show host Tess Daly jumping on the hype train: “Thank you judges. Two out of four mentioned the Glitterball… that’s big news!”.

Reacting to the stellar critique, Jamie kept it humble: “It’s a bit too early to be mentioning the Glitterball… none the less, I appreciate everything they say!” When the scores came in, the chap bagged a cool 30 points. Craig Revel Horwood gave him eight points, Motsi eight, Shirley Ballas seven and Anton seven.

Twitter exploded with praise for Jamie’s performance on Strictly Come Dancing. Fans tweeted their admiration: “Jamie really threw himself into that! Well done! #Strictly”, and others chimed in with cheers like “#Strictly Jamie was ACE in that”, and declarations of love with messages such as “LOVED THAT JAMIE BORTHWICK #Strictly”.

Another fan echoed the sentiment with a hearty “Well I loved that! Well done Jamie! #Strictly.”

The episode was a feast for the eyes as the professional dancers and their celebrity partners dazzled viewers with movie-themed performances, decked out in elaborate costumes. Kicking off the show was a quirky segment featuring the pros as Minions from Despicable Me, complete with Kai Widdrington channelling Gru, all while fellow dancers sported yellow bodysuits embodying the mischievous Minions.

In less joyful news, DIY SOS’s Nick Knowles and dance partner Luba Mushtuk had to withdraw from their much-anticipated Charleston set to the tune ‘Rain On The Roof’ from Paddington 2, when Nick suffered an injury, just a day prior. Abiding by Strictly protocols, the duo has been granted a pass straight to next week’s showdown, fingers crossed for Nick’s swift healing.

The series’ drama is only ramping up following last weekend’s shock exit of Olympian Tom Dean and pro-dancer Nadiya Bychkova, who became the first couple to bid the competition adieu.
