Strictly’s Craig Revel Horwood slams showbiz snowflakes who keep pulling sickies

Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood has moaned about snowflakes in the industry who pull sickies.

The dance expert is a firm believer in the motto ‘the show must go on’ and even did the TV series after a hip op. Craig, 59, said: “Well I think it’s the GenZs isn’t it? They sort of go, ‘Oh, I’ve got a bit of a headache, I don’t think I’ll go in today’ or ‘I’m emotionally not up for it!’.

“It’s like, whatever happened to Doctor Footlights, you know? And the show must go on? I mean, showbiz isn’t a normal existence in life and that’s what makes it so special, you know? Otherwise go and get a nine to five job where you get your pension paid for and you get 16 days sick days or whatever it is.”

Craig is currently on stage as the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz musical even though he’s just had an op on his feet to remove bunions. He said: “It’s the perfect sort of role for me to be recovering during, if that’s ever a thing! Because even when I got my hips replaced, I came back to work literally the following week later.

“I did not miss a Strictly, because I had it done, I literally went into hospital on the Sunday, they opened up surgery especially for me and I was nil by mouth all of the Saturday through the show, and then, went in for the surgery at 6am on the Sunday morning after finishing sort of at midnight and then I was back at work the following Saturday.

“Admittedly yes, I was in a wheelchair, and I couldn’t dance on – obviously – but literally it just proves that you can get on with life and continue to work where a lot of people will spend four months at home.”

Craig said he reckons people crying off because they were “tired” or have a sore throat must be a modern phenomenon. He added: “I really do think it is.

“I don’t know how else to explain it, but it has certainly gone that way. The work ethic is not as strong as it probably could be, certainly in the theatre.”
