The Chase fans fume show is ‘rigged’ as they spot strange question pattern

Fans of The Chase have blasted the ITV show amid accusations that the show is “rigged”.

The much-loved ITV gameshow returned to our screens on Monday (June 10), with host Bradley Walsh once again at the helm. A new batch of contestants also made an appearance, all hoping to take some vital cash from Chaser Mark Labbett.

First up to take on the Chaser on Monday’s show was Oscar, a theatre director from London. An enthusiastic man, Oscar brought passion to the show, explaining his love for storytelling and writing to host Bradley – who was seemingly bemused about Oscar’s true love.

When Bradley asked what kind of theatre Oscar had been involved in, he beamed: “Oh, I’ve done plays, I’ve done musicals, I’ve done pantos. It’s a mixed beast!”

Oscar also gushed over his love for the Globe Theatre in London, where playwright William Shakespeare had many of his works produced during his lifetime. He explained: “It’s so radical and democratic and it makes Shakespeare fun, which is important of course!”

As the competition got underway, Oscar was asked a series of questions in the cash builder round to get as much money as he could before taking The Beast on. By the end of the round, Oscar had managed to get four questions right – earning him a tidy £4,000 to take to the table.

However, fans picked up that many of the questions he was asked in the cash builder round were theatrical, which leaned into his expert knowledge. One question was posed about the writing of Beatrix Potter, whilst a second involved the Oscars film awards – all of which involved writing and theatre in some form.

Things did not improve for fans when Oscar began his battle to get his money back in the prize fund by taking on Chaser Mark. During the chase itself, a question was asked by host Bradley about an author who used the pseudonym Sebastian Melmoth – which was later revealed to be Oscar Wilde.

Eagle-eyed fans of the show were livid at the gearing of questions towards the Oscars’ wheelhouse and took to social media to vent their frustrations. One disgruntled viewer asked: “How many more Oscar-oriented questions can there be?”

A second user fumed: “There are very theatrical questions being asked – not that it’s rigged.” Whilst a third fan of the show watching at home added: “It was essential that Oscar was asked an Oscars-related question, wasn’t it.”

Oscar was able to make it through to the final with his £4,000 safely in the prize fund. However, he made a hilarious error when he left his fellow player hanging as she reached in for a high-five, leaving both Bradley and Mark covering their eyes at an iconic cringe moment on the show.

The Chase airs every weekday at 5pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
