The Chase fans ‘switch over to Pointless’ as ITV airs repeat of special episode

Fans of ITV’s hit gameshow The Chase were left furious after ITV decided to show a repeated Soccer Aid themed show.

Tuning into their daily dose of quizzing with presenter Bradley Walsh at the helm, fans’ joy turned into disappointment quickly when they realised that ITV decided to air a celeb special. But to make matters worse, it was an old episode too.

Taking part in the show was Lianne Sanderson, Dion Dublin, David James and Shaun Williamson as they attempted to raise money for Soccer Aid an Unicef. But despite, the star-studded lineup, viewers were still not happy.

Heading over to X, The Chase fans shared their grievances. One viewer said: “Aww not another bloody soccer aid show! Other than Shaun I’ve no idea who these blokes are. Think I’ll switch to #Pointless.”

Another said: “Celeb version. No thanks, it’s pointless for me #TheChase.”

A third chimed: “Why do they think we want to watch soccer aid repeats? Celeb games always suck.”

While a fourth viewer pointed out: “Yes it’s a repeat from ages ago. I remember it. Just double checked the TV guides in case I was imagining it and it does say that it’s a repeat. And now Liane Sanderson herself has tweeted that it’s a ‘re-show of the episode.'”

Fans shared their annoyance online

The repeated episode which ties into this year’s Soccer Aid on Sunday (June 9) first aired back in 2022. In the show, former EastEnders star Shaun contributed an astonishing £132,000 to the jackpot fund.

Seeing Shaun’s victorious triumph, fans complimented him online. One viewer said: “£132,000 in the kitty bag!!! That was absolutely audacious. Nice one Shaun.”

Another penned: “I prefer pointless. But any quiz show that Shaun Williamson is on is worth watching.”

Meanwhile, another viewer wasn’t convinced. They wrote: “The celeb chases are so rigged, no way Barry from Eastenders is that intelligent, have you seen Extras ??”

Despite some questioning Shaun’s skills, the actor is a quiz lover and even has a book dedicated to it. Shaun’s book, A Matter of Facts: One Man’s Journey into the Nation’s Quiz Obsession is available to purchase on Amazon.
