ONE of The Chasers has said that artificial intelligence can’t match their knowledge and could never take their place on the hit show.
Darragh Ennis also joked that they couldn’t make a big enough avatar to replace his pal Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett. He told Daily Star Sunday: “Artificial intelligence is totally fascinating, but I don’t worry about it replacing us on The Chase.
“So the thing about AI that everybody seems to misconstrue is they think it’s more powerful than it is. That’s one of the things.

“I don’t think you could replace The Beast though – the projector for that hologram would be massive. There’s no way to replace him.”
But Darragh did admit that he was in favour of using bots on the quiz behind the scenes.
He said: “Do you know what, I wouldn’t be against the idea of our question-writing team, who are the least appreciated people in the world by the way, using it.
“They get nothing but difficulty, people are always complaining about the questions – a classic quiz thing.
“But I’d have no problem if they wanted to use AI to generate a starting point for questions, why not?
“You know, they’d have to verify them, you have to check things, but they could reduce their workload and they could generate questions.
“And also, one good thing about AI is, everybody has biases and you could change the biases to that of the machine.
“So instead of asking just things you know about, it could farm vast amounts of information and come up with new topics.”
Dr Darragh is a scientist who away from the TV screen is still fascinated by biology.
Next month he publishes his book The Body with 10 essays about anatomy – and he believes AI can be useful in medicine.
He also reckons if humans are smart at adopting AI we all won’t have to toil so hard.
Darragh added: “What I would like to get out of AI, I would like everybody to have to work less.
“I’d love to be able to have doctors who can use AI technology to help them diagnose people.
“So you’ll have a doctor sitting there and someone’s got something and it’s able to narrow things down for them and work through problems.
“We already use AI to analyse scans. Now, they’re all clarified by surgeons and qualified people but they’re extraordinarily accurate that throughput can mean that you catch someone who has cancer before it being caught any other time before.
“Let’s use that, you know, I would be very optimistic. I think we should embrace AI and use it in the right way and use it to make society better again.
“But it’s a tool. It’s a thing that we can use. It’s the same as any other tool.
“Like, you know, a hammer can be used to hammer in nails and build a house, it can also be used to hurt someone, same as a car can be used as a weapon.
“All of these things can be used maliciously if you want to, because they’ve got power and that’s the same with AI and everybody seems to focus on that.
“It’s all very doom and gloom that it’s going to take over the world.
That’s how things have happened throughout history, the Luddites were destroying machines saying that for generations nobody would be in work – it didn’t happen.
“We just change the way we think – think of the opportunities. I think one of the best ways that AI could help us is by removing things that we have to do. It’s a labour saving device.
“I would think if it’s implemented properly and they’re able to sort of control it and direct it properly, there’s no reason why humans should still be working five days a week in a generation. That’s nonsense.
“Jobs should be done by AI where possible. You know, we could live… imagine living in a society where every week you work fewer days than you have days off?”
