The Chase’s Anne Hegerty addresses exit from ITV show with candid response

Anne Hegerty has opened up about how long she wants to stay on ITV’s The Chase.

The TV brainbox is known as The Governess on the popular gameshow hosted by Bradley Walsh, where she dazzles players with her elite quizzing skills. She’s been a Chaser since 2010 and while she admits she’s tempted to appear on other gameshows, she has no plans on retiring just yet.

Asked how long she wants to stay, she told Daily Star: “As long as they’ll have me, really. I don’t have any plans to retire. “It’s [the show] the little workhorse that makes everything else possible, and I love doing it.

She continued: “It’s the best job I’ve ever had, so I’m happy to keep going as long as they want me for.” However, she reveals she got told off by a producer when she was offered the chance to appear on a rival gameshow.

Anne said she was approached to appear on the BBC’s Celebrity Mastermind a few years back. She wanted to take them up on the offer, but ITV bosses weren’t pleased about the prospect and didn’t let her do it.

Asked if there were any other TV shows she’d like to try out, Anne said: “The trouble is I’m not allowed to do any other [shows]. I mean I got tapped up for Celebrity Mastermind a few years ago, but the producer said ‘absolutely not, we’re not letting you do it'”.

Her Celebrity Mastermind dreams may not have come true, but The Governess did star as a contestant on the 2018 series of ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. She joined the likes of former footy manager Harry Redknapp, who won, and Emily Atack, in the jungle.

It comes after Anne admitted that it’s producers who choose how much money they can offer contestants on The Chase, and not the Chasers like fans are led to believe. She told Metro: “I’m probably not supposed to tell you, so I’m telling you, it’s actually the producers.

She’s appeared on the ITV show since 2010

“The message gets passed down to the floor, and that’s how we know what the offer is. We don’t actually make it up ourselves, but we have to pretend that we did!”.
