The Masked Singer left fans astonished during the latest episode as Maypole was unmasked as Pussycat Doll singer Melody Thornton.
Saturday night’s (February 3) edition of the hit ITV show saw two celebs eliminated as host Joel Dommett announced that two contestants would be unmasked with immediate effect – a huge twist. After Dippy Egg was revealed as broadcaster Nicky Campbell, fans waited patiently to see who else would be sent packing.
After many guesses, with some viewers even believing Rita Ora was behind Maypole, fans were left stunned when they discovered it was pop star Melody. After her mask was removed, judge Rita Ora said: “Hearing your voice and tone, of course it’s you!”

Asked by Joel Dommett how she felt taking part in the show and hiding her identity, Melody, behind hit Pussycat Dolls songs Buttons and Don’t Cha, said it was “fun”. She said: “She’s [Maypole] such a sweetheart. It’s been fun!”
Seeing Melody as Maypole, fans headed straight to X to share their thoughts, with some stating that Melody should have made it to the final. One social media user wrote: “Maypole should have stayed. Incredible voice from Melody.
Another shared: “Melody sounded so good she definitely should have been in the final!” While a third penned: “I can’t find the tweet now but I literally said Melody Thornton for maypole last week.”
In her exit interview, Melody said: “What I’ve enjoyed most is that Maypole is so positive. She’s cheering for everybody else. I wrote a whole biography for my character. She’s not far off a female Pinocchio. So, there’s this part of her that wants to be loved and she’s draped in all of these colours. I just wanted to see her go far.”

But she struggled with her eyes in the giant pink costume. She said: “The worst thing about performing in the costume was sometimes the harness for the head would slip and end up over my eyes. The best thing is she was just so vibrant!”
Melody achieved success in Pussycat Dolls alongside Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Nicole Scherzinger, Jessica Sutta, and Kimberly Wyatt in the mid 2000s. But in 2010 Melody decided to leave the band to focus on her solo career.
