This Morning viewers reacted with glee during Wednesday’s Valentine’s Day special after a loving pair became engaged live on the ITV show.
In a segment celebrating all things February 14, partially-sighted guest Devante got down on one knee in front of his girlfriend, Hannah, and popped the question much to her surprise. And following her instant response of “obviously”, the studio erupted in applause for the happy couple.
Prior to his proposal Devante had told presenters Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond the incredible story of how he met Hannah at Specsavers, where she worked as an optician. Devante, who was diagnosed with incurable eye condition retinitis pigmentosa which left him with tunnel vision and leads to blindness, went on to speak of their chance encounter in October 2022.

And teeing Devante up for his big moment at the end of his chat, Alison said: “Devante is there anything else you want to say in this situation?”
With Hannah looking slightly bemused, he began: “Yes – Hannah, as the doctors said my world was going to get darker, you walked into my life and made it brighter. From that first date we met on that warm night I nicknamed you Mrs Moonlight. I just need to ask you one question.
“Which is… I’ve tried to keep this quiet… and not drop it out of my pocket one hundred times, but here we go. Will you marry me?”
Follwing her response, fans were quick to react on X (formerly Twitter) meanwhile, with one gushing: “Awww I have goosebumps congratulations to the happy couple.” Another added: “Ok to be fair, that was really nice actually.”
A third wrote: “Awww, Hannah, Devante, and [guide dog] Max. That was beautiful. Congratulations.” And a fourth said in amazement: “What did I just watch! Someone just proposed to their girlfriend on the This Morning sofa! LIVE ON AIR!”

Earlier this week This Morning was sensationally snubbed at the 2024 TV Choice Awards. The show failed to secure enough votes to win the gong for Best Daytime Show at Monday’ bash. It lost out to BBC wildlife series Animal Park, which is hosted by Kate Humble and Ben Fogle.
The result is the latest blow for This Morning after a turbulent year for the show. It was plunged into controversy last May when Philip Schofield resigned after admitting a secret fling with a younger colleague. Since then his former co-star Holly Willoughby has been forced to quit over security fears. There have also been claims there is a toxic culture behind the scenes and it failed to win at the National Television Awards for the first time in 13 years.
