This Morning’s Craig Doyle returns to show after ‘going missing’ as he admits to keeping secret

This Morning star Craig Doyle apologised for “going missing” as he returned to the ITV show.

The presenter, 53, was busy fronting ITV’s coverage of the Super Bowl last month, but hasn’t been seen on This Morning for weeks. However, he joined forces with Josie Gibson to host the latest instalment of the award-winning daytime programme.

Craig admitted he was forced to keep a secret on his return. Josie kicked things off on Tuesday (March 5) before Craig said: “Sorry, I went missing.”

The I’m A Celebrity star responded: “You went missing, but you’re back now.” Adding intrigue to his absence, the Irish broadcaster told his co-host: “Top secret, top secret. It involved many cuts on my gentle little hands.”

Josie, 39, added: “Oh no, don’t say that, because that’s like having an envelope and if it says ‘top secret’ you’d want to read it.” The dad-of-four agreed: “I can’t keep a secret, it’s so hard.”

Craig has been appearing on This Morning since 2021, starting out as presenter of the show’s competitions. He appeared twice as a guest host alongside Alison Hammond in 2022 before becoming a permanent figure on the programme.

This Morning introduced a rotating set of presenters following Phillip Schofield axe from ITV. Holly Willoughby then stepped down from the role after a plan to kidnap and murder her was exposed by police.

After trialling a number of different presenters, ITV confirmed that Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley would be the show’s permanent hosts, with Dermot O’Leary and Alison fronting it on Fridays.

The Tipping Point presenter, 49, said: “This really feels like a very special moment for Cat and I to be part of the next chapter of This Morning. It’s an honour to be trusted with the reins, join Alison [Hammond] and Dermot [O’Leary] and all the team that work on and off screen and do such a great job.”

Cat, 47, added: “Whenever it’s on, it’s like having your friends over – funny, smart, silly, heartfelt, informative and joyful – like all the greatest friendships.”
