This Morning’s Dermot issues apology to Alison as co-stars giggle over baby plans

This Morning host Dermot O’Leary was forced to apologise to his co-star Alison Hammond after he asked her if she is “expecting a baby”.

During Friday’s (January 26) visit to the ITV studios, the presenting duo welcomed viewers back for another fun-filled show. The dynamic duo discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines including the highly anticipated final of The Traitors.

Later on in the show, the pair discussed the evolution of baby names over the past few years as more and more young parents search for a unique name for their bundle of joy. Beginning the discussion, the dad-of-one cheekily asked his co-star: “Are you expecting a baby in 20204?”

Alison immediately replied: “No I’m not” as the Irish presenter recoiled in shock and immediately said sorry for the slip up. He insisted: “Not you, no that is a very personal question. I’m so sorry” before he quietly added: “But I wish you were.”

Alison gushed: “Aww me too actually” as he echoed: “Me too” before moving on with the segment. He went on: “New research has found a quarter of Brits want a quirky or unusual name for their newborn much to the dismay of the older relatives.”

The mum-of-one couldn’t help but share her disappointment that her name has quickly become unpopular amongst new parents around the UK. She added: “Well a name is very important, isn’t it? Very, very important.

“So if you’re struggling to agree with your partner on a name, maybe your sister sole your favourite name or perhaps you just want a very powerful name like Alison Hammond or Dermot O’Learty.”

Dermot joked: “If I had another child I’d call it Alison. First name Alison, second name Hammond.” It was at this point that Alison fumed: “Shall I tell you something? You don’t find many children, small children, with the name Alison.

“It’s not popular anymore.” The TV presenter reassured her by saying: “Just you wait, there’s going to be a big baby boom. And then before you know it there’s gonna be a whole new swathe of generations of sassy Al’s.”

Alison couldn’t help but burst into laughter at his hilarious comment before they moved on with the show. It comes after the broadcaster admitted that she felt like a “failure” after she split from her ex-boyfriend.
