This Morning fans were ecstatic as Martin Lewis stepped up to present the show for the first time ever – despite being a regular guest for 21 years.
The Money Saving Expert founder, 51, was standing alongside his co-star Josie Gibson on Monday (March 4), but admitted he “doesn’t want the job” despite producers asking him to come on and present. After showing a throwback clip of the first time Martin ever appeared on the programme, things turned slightly awkward.
He explained: “I remember that day because I’d wanted to be on This Morning for a couple of years, building up the money saving thing. I did that show and I was pretty pleased, it went very well, we got lots of calls. Then the editor at the time called me up afterwards and said, ‘Do you want to come on every week?’ And I cried.”

The star went on: “Now 21 years later, thank you very much for having me on the show today. This isn’t an audition, I don’t want the job, I’ve got a day job. I’ve just always wanted to do this. So to the producers, thanks for having me!
“To everybody watching, I hope you enjoy today. And if you don’t, don’t worry, because it’s only a one off! So you don’t need to tell me on social media if you didn’t enjoy it – I don’t need to know.”
Josie couldn’t help but wonder: “Why did you say yes then, to today?” as Martin explained: “Because it’s a bit of a bucket list thing. I’ve been on the show for so long, I’ve been part of the family here… I just think to present This Morning, it’s This Morning! So after today – done!”
Josie replied: “We’ve done it, and we’ve done it together.” Later in the show, Martin had to issue a warning to viewers when it was revealed he’d be taking calls on “any subject” – not just money.
He said: “Please, no adult content calls! They haven’t told me to say that, but…”
Fans were loving Martin’s appearance and wished he’d be made permanent – despite his own wishes. One wrote on X: “This has to be the first time in years, I have no criticism for the presenters!”
Another echoed: “The viewers should’ve been allowed to vote for their favourite presenters. Love it when @josiestweet and Craig or @MartinSLewis present.” While a third said: “He’s doing a great job!”

The official new hosts for the programme have already been confirmed by ITV bosses, after 10 months of searching for someone to replace Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. The replacements will be GMB host Ben Shephard and TV presenter Cat Deeley.
Phillip handed in his notice in May 2023, and shortly after admitted to having an affair with a male staffer on the programme while still married to his wife. He told Daily Mail: “I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.
“Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship.”
