Tom Hanks’ son Chet has had a wild life.
Chet Hanks is an American actor and musician, who is the son of Tom and Rita Wilson. He is perhaps best known for his recurring roles on Empire, Shameless and Your Honor, while he has also guest starred in Curb Your Enthusiasm and Atlanta.
He is Tom’s third child and studied theatre at university – fans may also know his half-brother Colin who has also starred in a number of Hollywood hits, including King Kong, The House Bunny and the Jumanji film series.

Some people may not remember Chet’s role in 2007’s Bratz, which was actually his debut on the silver screen. He played Dexter and according to the Bratz Wiki page, his character was between 16 and 18-years-old.
Dexter was a member of the science club and had a crush on his good friend Jade, one of the main stars of the film and the Bratz franchise as a whole. Elsewhere in Chet’s personal life, he has described himself as a black sheep due to multiple controversies that have cropped up throughout his career.
In 2015, it was reported that Chet was being “hunted by police” after allegedly “causing £1,200 damages” to a hotel room located new Gatwick, England. Daily Mail reported: “Police were called after staff at the four-star Arora International Hotel near Gatwick discovered the room’s television had been ripped off the wall and shattered glass all over the floor.”
It was also claimed that guests in the hotel had complained about the noise to reception.
He has struggled with drugs in the past and in an interview for Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk, Chet confessed that cocaine was his “drug of choice” when he was not sober: “I would go do coke with the cokeheads and they would be telling me, like: ‘Yo, chill bro…wait a second. Give it like 15 minutes,’ I couldn’t get enough of that sh**.”
He said that his past addictions “ate away” at him: “You just, like, wither away because you can’t eat, you can’t sleep.” His parents once staged an intervention for him when he was just a teen and was later checked into rehab in 2015.
Chet has a daughter with his former partner and he has previously credited his child, along with his parents, for helping him to tackle his substance abuse issues. In an interview for The Adam Friedland Show back in October 2023, Chet revealed that he was two years sober.
Hanks has also been accused of using a fake Jamaican accent and was hit with claims of “cultural appropriation”. A video of the star at the 2020 Golden Globes went viral, which showed the actor speaking Patois and laughing.
