The Only Way is Essexmas is reportedly coming back this December.
It has been reported that a Christmas special of an episode is set to air later this year after a no-show in 2022 and 2023. Rumour has it, the Essex gang will be delivering a bumper 90-minute special, packed with more drama than your average Christmas dinner.
It’s all change from the usual hour-long format, and if the whispers are “true”, ITVBe will be the place to be in 2024 for this reality TV gift.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The latest series of TOWIE has been a huge hit and there has been a lot of drama. It made sense to bring back the Christmas special. It’s a movie-length episode and fans can expect some real festive fun, romance and probably a few feuds.”
Last year left fans out in the cold when the Christmas special got the chop, with Ella-Rae Wise spilling the beans on social media. And who could forget 2022’s festive flop, canned due to what was whispered as “budget” blues?, reports the Mirror.
The Sun previously revealed a bit more behind-the-scenes tea, saying: “The cast were floored by the news as TOWIE’s Christmas specials are something of a tradition, so none of them were expecting to not be filming this time round.
“They were all told that the scheduling didn’t work out and the budget is being spent on other things, but it’s left them all feeling really nervous about the future for the show.”
At the time, the insider was worried about what it meant for the show’s future, remarking: “It’s not a good sign for the series in general if bosses have decided it doesn’t make financial sense to film the celebratory one-off.”
In addition, losing the Christmas special is a blow for the cast, as the insider pointed out: “Many of them rely on the Christmas special for additional work, and also because it helps maintain their profile as the regular show doesn’t air as frequently throughout the year anymore.”
But, hold your reindeer the much-loved festive special seems set to make a triumphant return this December. The TOWIE stars have been keeping schtum on the nitty-gritty of the yuletide episode, but Jodie Wells gave us a whisper during an online grilling session.
Jodie Wells, who’s all loved-up with TOWIE heartthrob James ‘Diags’ Bennewith, was quizzed by fans eager for gossip during a digital QandA. She teased them with the reply: “With how the series ended I feel a Christmas special would be amazing.”
TOWIE airs Sundays on ITVBe at 9pm
