Adam, 64, U2’s bass guitarist, along with Mariana, a solicitor, exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at a Dublin registrar’s office in September 2013, after enjoying a four-year relationship. Their wedding was marked by an extravagant celebration featuring 150 attendees, including fellow U2 rockers Bono, The Edge, and Larry, hosted at a historical French chateau near Cannes.
In July 2017, the joyous couple then welcomed their cherished daughter Alba, whose birth was publicised through a personalised advert in The Irish Times, reading: “Adam and Mariana Clayton are delighted to announce the birth of their beautiful baby girl Alba.”
Treading similar lines as his bandmates, Adam maintains a cordon around his private life but shared a rare personal insight about Mariana at the MusiCares MAP Fund gala in June 2017.
He enthused, “I was in Brazil and I met a lawyer who was smart and beautiful. We started dating. I got married in sobriety to Mariana. I didn’t think that would happen. She’s never seen me drinking, but she does know me crazy. Thank you, Mariana, for the wonderful life we have together and for making every day more meaningful.”
Previously, the accomplished bassist had a string of high-profile relationships under his belt, including an engagement to global supermodel Naomi Campbell. Their bond was so strong that they even appeared on RTE’s The Late Late Show together in 1994.
His list of past paramours also includes Suzie Smith, to whom he proposed in 2006. Before tying the knot with Mariana, Adam had fathered a young lad born in 2010 from a previous relationship.
The happy news comes hot on the heels of his captivating display on Gardeners’ World, where the Dublin native showcased his magical Eden, nurtured and perfected over the course of three decades.
Adam lifted the lid on his outdoor oasis, featuring meandering rivers, an astonishing collection of over 4,000 trees, and peaceful islands creating a serene sanctuary.
In response to the verdant wonderland he presented, scores of fans hailed his efforts on social media. One eager fan chimed in with their admiration, confessing, “Now I love Adam more. I want a holiday in his garden! “, while another declared, “I wish BBC Two had a like button. Exceptional #gardenersworld tonight. Adam Clayton’s garden and story a revelation.”
