One Kenan and Kel star was rushed to hospital.
Kel Mitchell is celebrating his 46th birthday and to commemorate his milestone we’re taking a look at where he and his co-star Kenan Thompson are now.
The pair both shot to fame after their chemistry shone through in the 1997 film Good Burger. The pair were then picked up by Nickelodeon for their own series Kenan and Kel, which was aired from 1996 – 2001.

Kel Mitchell now
Kel has since gone on to have a highly successful comedy career. He has also racked up TV shows like Clifford the Big Red Dog, Henry Danger, Double Dare, Liv & Maddie, Spongebob Squarepants, Sam & Cat, The Thundermans and more. He also competed on the 28th Season of Dancing With The Stars and finished in second place.

Kel is also a convert to Christianity. In December 2019, the star became a youth pastor at Spirit Food Christian Center in Winnetka, Los Angeles.
Kenan Thompson now
Career-wise Kenan, 46, went on to appear in a bunch of movies like Big Fat Liar, Fat Albert, Snakes on a Plane, The Smurfs, The Grinch, and Wonder Park. Alongside Clifford The Big Red Dog, Spinning Gold and Hubie Halloween. In 2003, he joined Saturday Night Live and is the longest-tenured cast member in the show’s history.
In 2011, he married model Christina Evangeline and together they have two daughters, Georgia Marie and Gianna Michelle. In April 2022, the pair separated and filed for divorce. Kenan later requested 50/50 custody of their daughters.
Dirty accountant
During an interview on “The Breakfast Club” podcast, Kenan recalls his experience with a shady accountant who lead him to go broke and lose $1.5 million between 1999 and 2000. The accountant took all of the money earned from his popular Nickelodeon shows.
In a recent TV interview with the Today Show, Kenan also spoke on this and said: “Yeah, I never saw it, so it was a process of like using a debit card and monthly budgeting. I confronted him but he just said ‘blah, blah, blah’.
“But you know, the biggest thing was the IRS coming after you, because they don’t know what you necessarily have to deal with what the actual story is, all they wanted was the money. That was tough, but, you know, I made it through by the grace of God. But I’m very trusting, not everybody is a crook.”
Huge ‘fallout’
In the same Today Show interview, Kenan was quizzed on his relationship with his co-star bestie Kel, after it was previously revealed the pair had their fair share of ups and downs over the years. Talking about their rift, Kenan explained: “It was more of a separation that kind of grew into, you know, the traditional terms of what a falling out is, which is not a lot of communication.
“Yeah, originally, it was just us, you know, kind of looking for our own individualism, basically, as adults, and kind of just taking a breather from, you know, being a duo, because we both came into the game as, you know, individuals, and you know, we were placed together because we worked so well together and all that.
“And, yeah, it was just the journeys of being adults. And then, you know, time passes and more time passes, it just became ridiculous. And then, you know, called to I apologize, and we played phone tag for like, a day or something. It was five minutes into the phone call and we were back. What were we waiting on all this time? But like, you just never really know until you actually have that talk.
“It’s time wasted, which is one of the biggest crimes I think you can do. So it feels so good to be back with my brother and the movies, doing well appreciative. We’re looking forward to the next chapters.”
Fans will be thrilled to know that their fallout is still far behind them, and they celebrated coming back together by creating Good Burger 2, which was released in 2003.
Health scare
In November 2023, Kel suffered a rather terrifying health scare. After reports of him going in and out of hospital emerged, the star took it upon himself to share what was going on with fans online.
The actor took to Instagram and said: “I thought I’d come on here and tell y’all what happened. All right, so I’m good. I’m here. I’m smiling. I’m with my family. I’m at home.
“On Tuesday, I was out shopping. Suddenly, the whole room started spinning. So I was like, I must be dehydrated, so I need to go with some water, some food. When I did that, the whole right side of my arm and my leg was numb, okay, followed by me not being able to struggle, that’s when I panicked, and so I drove myself to the hospital.
“But I was panicking, so I wobbled myself to the car. Then when in the ER, I failed the arm and leg test. So that was raising fears of like something more serious, and because I could not move my right arm, my motor skills was not working, so CT scan, ECGs, everything they started doing on me. That’s why I had to stay overnight.
“And you know, what we feared wasn’t what it was. It was actually a bulging disc that I had from a prior injury that was pressing up against the nerve, mimicking all those symptoms that I was going through. So I’m thanking God that I am good.
“Thank you all for all the prayers and the comments, even the crazy ones I saw or give him some orange soda. And just know a lot of Good Burger content is coming your way, that I couldn’t post before.
“Thank you my beautiful wife once again, who is just amazing. You know, my kids, my entire family, all my friends that reached out, and all the fans that reached out, I love y’all. God bless.”
