Zoe Ball has made a return to BBC Radio 2 after an unexplained six-week absence from the Breakfast Show.
At the start of her show at 6.30am on September 23, she greeted her listeners with: “Morning gorgeous people it’s me Zoe the happy wanderer. I’ve wandered back.
“How was your Brat summer? Was it marvellous? We did that in the 90s it was called something different then.

“I hope you’ve been enjoying some of the gorgeous sunsets over the last few weeks. It’s a tad soggy our end this morning. Take it easy out on the road.”
She then expressed her gratitude to “dear friend” Scott Mills for stepping in during her absence, promising to share more details later.
“What have I missed? Text me. I’ve missed ya,” she continued. After spinning September by Earth Wind and Fire, Zoe humorously denied that she had gone to Turkey for cosmetic procedures.
“You do look great though,” newsreader Tina Daheley complimented her. Zoe admitted she had “so much gossip” to catch up on, but joked that some of it would be saved for off-air chats with her colleagues, reports the Mirror.
The 53-year-old presenter had hinted at her return to her £950,000 role on Sunday night. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, she announced: “Back on breakfast @bbcradio2 tomorrow morning at 6:30.”
Zoe also showed her appreciation for fellow presenters Scott Mills and DJ Spoony, thanking them for their “mega shifts” in her stead.
Since her fleeting return on August 8 after a summer hiatus, the presenter hadn’t greeted listeners with her usual cheer. On a rather startling August 12, stand-in Scott Mills got Radio 2 fans in a tizzy as he broke it down that Zoe was going to be MIA for a good few weeks, while he dished out all the love to the missing host.
The plot thickened when Zoe bailed on her show the previous Friday without warning, even after hinting she’d be live “at dawn” in a tweet just the night before.
