BBC Radio 2 host Zoe Ball will be taking some time away from the show.

BBC Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball has admitted that she will be taking time away from her show after receiving some ‘devastating’ family news.

Ball, 53, has been a mainstay for the station in recent years, bringing commuters a smile to their faces as they rush into work every weekday. However, she recently announced that she will be temporarily leaving the show after her family fell on “tough times”.

It comes after her mum Julia was sadly diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. Zoe admitted that the family were struggling following her diagnosis, but praised her valiant mum for being so “brave”.

Uploading a photo to her social media channels, Zoe could be seen with the rest of her family as they stood by mum Julia. She went on to release a second picture of Julia receiving chemotherapy as they battle the horrible disease.

Writing in the caption, Zoe penned: “Heartbreakingly, our beautiful Mama Julia has been diagnosed with cancer. As many of you know from experience, these are extremely tough times; Mum is being incredibly brave.”

Ball made a striking tribute to her mum on social media

She also paid tribute to the “brilliant” medical staff at the hospital where her mum was being treated and thanked them immensely for the work they were doing. Ball also gave thanks to her family, friends and workplaces for being there for the clan in their time of need.

Zoe added that she was sending “love to people reading this who are battling cancer, or awaiting diagnosis” as well as those taking on the roles caring for those who are “poorly”. She then announced she would be stepping back from her show as she aimed to give some time to her mum, adding that Gabby Roslin will be filling in for Zoe.

“I’m trying to be at work on breakfast as often as I can, but occasionally need to be home with my Mama. Thanks to Gaby for stepping in, lots of love,” she finished before adding a red love heart.

Zoe’s Breakfast Show airs between 6:30am and 9:30am, after taking the show over from former TFI Friday host Chris Evans, who left the BBC in 2019. Since she went public with the news, Ball has been flooded with messages of support and love as fans rushed to let her know she was not alone.

Strictly star Amanda Abbington gushed over the radio presenter: “Sending you and your beautiful family so much love my darling, the most love.” Fellow BBC presenter Adele Roberts also paid tribute to Zoe, adding: “Thinking of your amazing mum and sending so muhc love to you all.”
