Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio 2 absence surrounded in mystery as ‘nobody knows what’s happening’

A BBC mole has spilled some juicy details about Zoe Ball’s mysterious five-week disappearance from her Radio 2 slot.

Everyone’s starting to notice Scott Mills and Gaby Roslin have been keeping her seat warm since August 8, but the BBC is staying quiet on what’s up with the much-loved 53-year-old presenter. An insider spilled the beans to MailOnline saying: “Nobody knows what has happened but everyone loves Zoe.”

They’re all crossing their fingers for her: “We hope everything is okay. Zoe is so loved at the BBC so to not have her around is really noticeable.”

Earlier this year, Zoe was off-air dealing with some pretty heavy stuff including the loss of her mum to cancer in April and a spot of emergency dental surgery. Despite this, some listeners are having none of it and they’re taking to Twitter to vent big time, reports the Mirror.

One tweeter didn’t mince their words: “Is this a BBC scandal, complete misuse of licence payers funds. Zoe Ball gets to pick and choose her contract terms and conditions. She’s never at work, more holidays than you can imagine. Are we mugs paying for this. No comment.”

Meanwhile, Scott’s name’s still on the schedule as the gossip intensifies.

One user slammed the situation, saying: “Why are the BBC still paying Zoe ball when she is still off air, just get rid of her for someone who does want to work early morning shift. Just saying.”

Another disgruntled listener added their two pence worth: “Question why is Zoe Ball never at work, anybody else would be sacked…You pay your licence for this.”

The critique on salaries was echoed by a third individual, who didn’t hold back: “Not forgetting Zoe Ball BBC radio 2 always on the sick with full pay! From the licence paying British public!”

Amid the criticism, there was also genuine worry and support for Ball whose absence reasons were not clear. One concerned fan penned after her missing Radio 2’s In The Park event: “Listening and watching all the #R2InThePark content. What has happened to Zoe Ball? She’s been off the Radio for 5 weeks in total – no mention of her whatsoever the last few weeks. I hope she’s ok.”

Calling for resilience, one supporter expressed: “Zoe, not sure if you read these comments but just to say that I hope you’re ok. Take time, stay strong,” they offered.

In response to queries, a BBC spokesperson previously confirmed to Mirror: “Zoe will return to the Radio 2 Breakfast Show later this month.”
