90s legend Ultra Naté has recalled a terrifying fan encounter that left her panicking for safety as she prepares to light up Harrogate’s Love to be… Festival on September 6
It’s not all glitter balls and singalongs when you’re a 90s music icon – just ask Ultra Naté, who’s opened up about one fan encounter that still makes her shudder.
The US star, whose global smash Free became an anthem of the decade, revealed the moment came after a packed show when fans got a little too close for comfort.
When asked if she has ever had any crazy fan encounters, she answered: “Maybe a couple over exuberant ones along the way. It almost got tricky in a car once as I was leaving a big show that featured every then pop star topping the UK charts.
“There was a massive crowd of fans waiting outside, and I think the company was trying to get all of the artists out of the building inconspicuously, but once they realised I was in the car, they all lunged and surrounded it, banging on the windows and screaming.
“It was surreal! Their intention wasn’t to harm though; they were just excited kids. However, we were nervous about the windows potentially giving way under the pressure of so many people.
“What actually intensified the situation, was the driver started getting impatient, or maybe he was even more worried about the windows. He sort of started revving the engine a bit like he was going to lurch the car forward.
“That made me panic because I was afraid he would unintentionally hurt one of the kids. Eventually, security was able to clear enough of them back for the car to get out.”
These days, Ultra is far more focused on the positive energy that floods her shows and she’s bringing exactly that to the UK very soon. The dance legend is set to light up the Love to be… Festival in Harrogate on September 6, joining a heavyweight line-up celebrating the golden age of house and club culture.
The festival will also see electrifying sets from fellow 90s icons Robin S, best known for the floor-filler Show Me Love, and Alison Limerick, whose Where Love Lives is still guaranteed to pack a dancefloor. Add in world-class DJs and a crowd ready to relive the era’s biggest anthems, and Harrogate is set for a party like no other.
Tickets are already on sale, with organisers promising a massive day of live performances and DJ sets that will bring the spirit of the 90s roaring back. Fans can grab theirs now at lovetobefestival.co.uk
