Actor and martial arts legend Jet Li left fans concerned last month after sharing photos and videos of himself at hospital, and he has now explained what exactly was going on
Actor Jet Li has shared that he had surgery to remove a tumour from his neck after posting photos of himself in hospital. The 62-year-old left fans worried with his hospital snaps, and he has now explained what has been going on.
The martial arts legend, who appeared in Once Upon A Time In China, said that he found a lump on his neck on his birthday in April. He went to get it checked out but didn’t see any improvements.
Speaking in a video on Chinese social media site Weibo, he said: “I touched it and it was a little hard.
“I went to see an ear, nose and throat specialist, who said it might be a tooth swelling, with gum inflammation affection the lymph nodes.”
He took medication for a week but saw no improvements.
His doctors recommended he have an ultrasound and other checks, like a biopsy.
It was discovered that he had a benign tumour, though there were still some questions.
Li continued: “I was not very busy in August, so I consulted the doctor again, who said that to be on the safe side, it should still be removed for a biopsy to get a clearer picture.
“I went for the surgery, and the doctor said after the biopsy that it was 100% benign.”
He said it was simply a “hardware issue” that he had to deal with.
The actor went on: “If there’s a problem, you fix it. If you have to remove it, then do so and it will be fine.
“If the tumour had not been benign, I would have faced it too.
“Even if there’s a one-in-10,000 or one-in-100,000 chance of dying on the operating table, I would face it too.”
In a separate video, he explained that he spoke with his wife Nina Li Chi, who said she would support him with whatever decision he took regarding the surgery.
The couple have been married since 199 and share daughters Jane, 25, and Jada, 22. He also has daughters Li Si, 37, and Li Taimi, 36, from his marriage to actress Huang Qiuyan.
Speaking of the unpredictability of life, Li continued: “Some people asked about me with a positive attitude, some had doubts, while some said I deserved it.
“I can understand all these attitudes. Let’s share our thoughts and confront the discussions on life and death.”
