Alison Hammond has hits back at critics calling for her to be axed from an ITV programme.

The 50-year-old This Morning host has responded to the online trolls who don’t like that she’s the new host of For The Love Of Dogs. She took over as host after the late Paul O’Grady’s death in 2023 she’s still receiving criticism two years on.

But it would appear she’s not bothered about the backlash. Chatting to The Guardian, Alison declared: “People say Pete Wicks would be better than me at presenting For the Love of Dogs.

“He might be, but I’m doing it. Deal with it! I know my worth. Besides, my mum would have been so proud. That’s why I do this. She’s my guiding light.”

Alison, who shot to fame on Big Brother, also referenced a TikTok clip of a woman slamming her involvement in Celebrity Gogglebox”. The star said that her colleagues like Davina McCall don’t get the sort of abuse she gets.

She went on: “It may seem like I’m on TV a lot, but I stand out partly because it’s still not common to see a Black woman doing this. I don’t want to bring race into it but nobody says that about Davina or Ant and Dec. I’ve worked hard for 22 years to get here.”

Alison said she is merely “doing a job that I adore to the best of my ability, trying to be better than I was yesterday”. She also revealed she is “good at saying no” and will reject TV opportunities if it doesn’t work for her or she needs to take a break.

Earlier this year, Alison was shocked when a nasty troll branded her “repulsive”. She shared a fun video of herself driving a tractor in a cornfield on social media, with the caption: “Rolling into my holidays.”

However, a 77-year-old man named Peter left her almost speechless with his insulting comment. It read: “Any time we see you are on TV we switch channels as you turn our stomachs being so fat and repulsive with a huge mouth.”

Alison was shocked and retweeted his comment with a single word; “Wow”. One fan, rallying behind the presenter, commented: “Alison you know how special and fantastic you are.”

When she accepted the presenting gig on For The Love Of Dogs, Alison said she’d never be able to replace the “iconic” Paul O’Grady. She said: “I am very aware that I can never replace the iconic Paul in this wonderful series, but if I can continue to shine a light on the brilliant work done at Battersea and help to tell the stories of these beautiful dogs, then it will be an absolute privilege to give it my all.

She added: “I can’t wait to share the joy of their searches for new loving forever homes and hopefully make lots of furry friends of my own along the way!”
