BBC legend died with ’empty will’ despite jaw-dropping £80million fortune

An iconic BBC star, who made a fortune as a businesswoman and TV star, reportedly left no money in her will after passing away at the age of 65 while on holiday in Morocco

A Dragons’ Den star left no money in her will. Despite an estimated fortune of a whopping £80million, Hilary Devey CBE reportedly left no money behind. The former star of BBC’s Dragons’ Den unfortunately passed away aged 65 in June 2022 whilst on holiday in Marrakesh, Morocco.

The Bolton-born businesswoman had been battling a long illness and her sad death sparked heartfelt tributes from ex-colleagues and adoring fans alike.

A year on from her passing, details of her will came to light and despite her considerable wealth, Hilary only left material possessions, including jewellery, behind for her loved ones.

As per the Daily Mail, Hilary’s 2021 will stated that her iconic diamond cross should go to her friend Audrey Mulligan, while her personal belongings were left to her son Mevlit Brewster-Ahmet and her publicist and lawyer, who acted as trustees. This leaves the fate of her estimated £80 million fortune a mystery.

Hilary’s early life in the North West was worlds apart from her later success. As a young child, she saw bailiffs take goods from her family home following the bankruptcy of her father Arthur Brewster’s central heating firm, reports the Express.

However, this hardship only spurred Hilary on, leading her to set up her own pallet company funded by selling her house and car.

Devey once shared her motivation behind her quest for triumph: “I didn’t want my son to go without so I pushed myself hard to build a life for us. Fortunately, I was always good with numbers and I loved the cut and thrust of business.”

Her tireless pursuit paid off spectacularly.

The business titan was also a well-known philanthropist during her lifetime, donating a penny from every pallet her firm Pall-Ex shipped as part of the ‘Penny a Pallet’ scheme.

In recognition of her immense contributions to the transport industry and her charitable work, she was honoured in the 2013 Birthday Honours list with a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) accolade.
