Richard Osman is convinced that due to recent sex scandals in British television, executives are now more likely to give women an opportunity to shine in the biggest programmes
The biggest presenting jobs in British television look set to go to women so networks can avoid sex scandals, it has been claimed.
Producer Richard Osman, who made a reputation for entertaining the nation on Pointless, with his sublime knowledge and quick wit, thinks execs are less likely to hire men these days because it’s far too much of a risk.
Richard said: “It feels like every single job is going to be given to a woman. Because, why take the risk of not?
“No woman has ever lost her job for doing any of this, but so many of the men have. You just think, ‘Let women present everything’.”
The 54-year-old from Billericay thinks it’s a risk hiring a man to front a show these days because if they’re exposed as a sex pest, you can no longer sell the rights to that particular programme.
He said: “There is so much in television now about how you build up your back catalogue and you build up your library of TV programmes that can sell forever.”
Richard continued: “Financially, if I have a woman presenting a show, I know that I can sell that show forever, whereas with a man you never know.”
In recent months, Gregg Wallace has been replaced by critics Grace Dent on MasterChef.
With this in mind, esteemed host of The Traitors, Claudia Winkleman, sports presenter, Gabby Logan and Antiques Road Show fan favourite, Fiona Bruce, could all be in line to take on some of the biggest roles out there.
