BBC Repair Shop star Jay Blades appears in court charged with two counts of rape

Former The Repair Shop star Jay Blades has appeared at Telford Magistrates’ Court charged with two counts of rape. The BBC star appeared via video link.

The 55-year-old spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He also thanked the judge at the end of the short six-minute hearing on Wednesday (August 13).

Jay was granted conditional bail to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on September 10.

West Mercia Police previously confirmed the television star was due in court, as it he faced a separate case charged with controlling or coercive behaviour.

In a statement on August 5, the force said: “Jason Blades, 55, of Claverley in Shropshire, has been charged with two counts of rape. He is due to appear at Telford Magistrates’ Court on 13 August 2025.”

He appeared via video link at Worcester Crown Court on August 5 for a preliminary hearing in relation to the charge of controlling or coercive behaviour, with a trial coming at a later date.

The dad-of-three is accused of controlling or coercive behaviour by estranged wife Lisa-Marie Zbozen, which he denies.

Jay rose to fame on BBC show The Repair Shop as a furniture restorer.

He presented the show from 2017 until 2024, when he stepped back.

Jay has also appeared on BBC shows Money For Nothing and Jay Blades’ Home Fix.

He also competed on the 2021 Christmas Special of Strictly Come Dancing, partnered with Luba Mushtuk.
