The BBC is grappling with a new internal scandal after one of its top female stars allegedly showed an explicit image to a junior staff member, sparking outrage and concern behind the scenes.

According to insiders, the high-profile presenter, who appears on one of the broadcaster’s flagship programmes and is listed among the BBC’s 50 highest-paid employees.

The star reportedly displayed the inappropriate image on her phone during a casual conversation where she asked the young producer is she “liked d*** pics”, before showing her an intimate image of a man’s privates.

Sources claim she asked the young producer a provocative question before showing the image, which left the staff member “horrified and in tears.”

It remains unclear whose it was in the picture but the young staff member was left “horrified and in tears”.

Executives were swiftly alerted to the incident, and the presenter was summoned to a private meeting where she was instructed to apologise for her actions.

What was initially considered whispered gossip within the corporation’s corridors has now grown into a looming public relations crisis. Staff members familiar with the matter have described it as a “ticking time bomb,” warning that if the star’s identity becomes public, it could trigger widespread fallout across several departments.

A source said: “This incident goes beyond ordinary workplace banter. The staff member felt intimidated and upset, believing the act was meant to shock under the guise of a joke. There’s a sense that if this had involved a male presenter, the repercussions would have been immediate and severe. The fact that it’s a woman at the centre of this makes the situation even more striking.”

The case has raised renewed questions about workplace culture at the BBC, which has been under scrutiny following a string of controversies involving high-profile presenters. In recent years, the broadcaster has faced damaging headlines over misconduct allegations linked to programmes such as MasterChef, Strictly Come Dancing, and the Huw Edwards scandal.

Industry observers say that if the star’s name is revealed, the consequences could be “seismic,” potentially making her the first female presenter to be formally caught up in the BBC’s growing list of publicised missteps.
