Benidorm star rushed to hospital with ‘severe concussion’ after ‘nasty’ fall

A Benidorm star has been left with “severe concussion” after falling and hitting their head.

Actress Laila Zaidi, who played brunette beauty Cyd in the tenth series of the hit ITV sitcom, went to hospital and was diagnosed with “severe concussion”. She fell and hit the back of her head on Sunday (August 31) and initially thought she was fine.

However, she began throwing up and feeling dizzy all day and decided it was best to get herself checked out by doctors. She has now updated fans on Instagram and thanked them for their support.

She said: “Thank you for all the lovely messages checking in, I had a bit of a nasty fall on Sunday and landed on the back of my head which I thought was fine but after a day of throwing up/ dizziness and double vision thought I should get checked and it’s just some horrible severe concussion.”

Laila, who is now resting up at home, she added: “Resting up with minimal screen time and mama is here to the rescue looking after me along with ads and milo.”

Laila played Cyd in Benidorm in 2018, and ended up finding love with fellow Benidorm star Adam Gillen. The couple got engaged in 2023, six years later, with Adam having got down on one knee during their trip to Croatia.

She wrote alongside the loved up snaps, which revealed her engagement ring: “A whole week of being a diiiirty flirttttyyy thirty FIANCÉ !!!!!!! [ring emoji] [nine heart emojis].” Laila’s character Syd was the girlfriend of Adam’s character Liam Conroy in the sitcom.

Away from Benidorm, Laila is known for playing teacher Asma Farooqi in the fifth series of Channel 4 drama Ackley bridge. The show was axed in November 2022.

Channel 4 said in a statement: “We’re immensely proud of Ackley Bridge, which over the last five series has received praise for the way in which it has tackled real-life situations and issues in an irreverent and insightful way.

“However, Channel 4 has a responsibility to continuously look for new and innovative ideas and we have made the difficult decision to not greenlight another series.

“We’d like to thank The Forge, the wonderful cast and all those involved in the show’s success over the years and we look forward to working with them again on future projects.”

Last year, Zaidi appeared in the BBC soap Doctors, playing the character of Maria Jaziri. She’s also graced the stage in productions such as Bend It Like Beckham: The Musical, The Selfish Giant, and Starlight Express.
