Big Brother icon unrecognisable nearly 20 years after show as he becomes vicar

Glyn Wise has swapped the Big Brother house for the church.

The Welsh reality TV star was just 18 when he stepped into the Big Brother house in 2006 – he couldn’t even boil an egg. He ended up finishing as runner-up on the seventh series, behind winner Pete Bennett.

But fast forward nearly 20 years and Glyn is worlds away from the show as he’s turned to god and become a reverend. He’s also undergone a rather hunky transformation since leaving the house. These days, he’s sporting a shaved head and a strong beard.

Glyn , now 37, took to social media to announce that he has officially trained as a minister. Writing on Instagram, he said: “This is Rev Glyn – I’m coming to get you!”.

He continued: “Day 1 as an official Rev! Hard work, praying and studying has paid off – “With God all things are possible” Math 19: 26. Looking forward to follow in the footsteps of the desciples in the book of Acts, spreading the good word across the nations! “Diolch yn fawr am yr holl gefnogaeth. “

Glyn added a passage from the New Testament, Paul’s letter to the Philippians in the Welsh language at the bottom of his post. Fans rushed to the comments to share their support, with one writing: “Keep spread the love, well done mate.”

Another added: “Congratulations father, this is awesome news.” Lea Walker, Glyn’s former Big Brother co-star also took to the comments. She said: “Babes you have no idea. Just how proud I am of you. You’ve worked tirelessly you’ve worked so hard and I am so unbelievably proud of you.

“Congratulations congratulations congratulations. I love you with every beat of my heart and I can’t wait to see you again next month.”

He also took to X to reflect on his Big Brother experience two decades after his stint in the house. He posted side-by-side snaps comparing what he looked like back then to what he looks like now.

Glyn announced he was training as a minister in 2022

He wrote: “25 years ago #BBUK came on our screens! Within the first week I was hooked on the experiment! I had just started high-school with a dream of being a contestant on the show! I prayed to God that once I’d turn 18 He would put me in the show!

“Ask and you shall receive…” Loved it! I still remember being in 6th Form in North Wales, taking the train down to London with high hopes & dreams!

“Big Brother was an absolute dream come true! But now I’m more than happy helping others know God through Jesus Christ! Thank you @bbuk for one of the best experiences of my life! X”

In April 2022, Glyn announced that he was training to become an ordained minister in the Church in Wales and shared his journey on social media. He shared on social media at the time: “Done it! I’m [sic] been accepted for Ordained Ministry with the Church in Wales.

“Thank you to everyone at London Church of England for their support and prayers! Looking forward to spread the good word and become Fr Glyn.”

He grew up in a Christian family but said that his time in Asia inspired him to pursue his new career. He told BBC Wales: “When I was in Asia, particularly South Korea, I saw that Christianity was growing at a massive scale and whilst I was there I went to church and felt every sermon was basically speaking directly to me.”
