EXCLUSIVE: Britain’s Got Talent star Paul Potts has made a cheeky reference to ITV host Declan Donnelly after they met on the set of the talent show that shot him to fame
A Britain’s Got Talent legend has made a cheeky jibe towards ITV presenting royalty Declan Donnelly.
The opera singer, 54, spoke exclusively to Daily Star in collaboration with https://www.skyvegas.com/games/slots, as he reminisced about his time on the talent show which shot him to fame.
When asked how he found Geordie duo Ant and Dec, Paul claimed the pair always got mixed up, before making a cheeky reference to their height.
Paul laughed: “Everybody gets them mixed up – Dec is meant to be the shorter one, but he’s still taller than me. They’re great guys – they’re great to be around and they are good fun.”
The TV champ also opened up about a moment he’d rather forget on air when he was left embarrassed in front of the judges.
Back in 2007, the star auditioned for the show in front of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan – but things went a little pear shaped when his phone went off on stage.
Paul recalled: “I’ve told this story before, but as Piers Morgan stopped speaking and Simon Cowell was about to speak, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket, and I always had it set to vibrate four times and then ring really, loud. I had a novelty ringtone at the time.”
The first series champion also shared his advice for the 2025 contestants and how they can try their best to impress the judges.
Paul said: “This is the one tip that I use pretty much every time, and that is, go out and enjoy yourself. If you’re enjoying yourself, it’s infectious and people enjoy you.
“Try and ignore the judges and the audience to an extent as well. Just enjoy yourself and make the most of the opportunity.
“The only regret you’ll ever have is if you didn’t give it your all. There’s no point of having regrets, so just go out and put it all out there.”
He continued: “You can have too much knowledge of what’s happening and it’s easy to overthink it. If I had known exactly how it would work, I think I would have found that more difficult.
“The fact that I didn’t know, and this is a part of the advantage of being in the first season, is that I didn’t know what would happen next, so I couldn’t overthink. There was less opportunity to overthink things, so therefore I went into things fresh without trying to think too much.
“Sometimes you get in your own way when you try and overthink and over-prepare. There’s the old saying, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. It’s better that you go into it completely fresh and not and not think what’s going to happen – that’s the best approach.”
