Cannes Film Festival has released a new set of rules for the 2025 event, which includes a ban on nude illusion dresses following Bella Hadid’s knockout number last year
Cannes Film Festival has taken some strict measures this year.
The 2025 event is reportedly banning large, voluminous dresses, dresses with long trains and nude illusion dresses.
According to the charter, dresses on the larger and longer side can “hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre.”
They also stated that nudity will not be allowed due to “decency reasons”.
Supermodel Bella Hadid turned heads with a rather risqué illusion dress at the 2024 event. The Hadid sister wore a beige mesh halter dress that had completely see-through cups, a ruched bodice and a long sheer skirt.
She paired the look with gold high heels and styled her hair in old Hollywood curls as she posed for the cameras.
Previously in 2021 she wore a chest-less black dress and covered her breasts in a gold necklace that was meant to imitate human lungs.
However, a stunt like this will not be acceptable in 2025 and the festival’s charter has clearly outlined their expectations for this year’s event.
“For the Grand Théâtre Lumière gala screenings taking place around 7 and 10pm, which are attended by the artistic teams, evening wear (long dress, tuxedo) is required.”
“Alternatively, you may also wear “a little black dress,” a cocktail dress, a dark-colored pantsuit, a dressy top with black pants […] a black or navy-blue suit with bow-tie.”
The charter rules out the use of “tote bags, backpacks or large bags” inside the venue during screenings.
“For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the Red Carpet, as well as in any other area of the Festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted.”
“The Festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit Red Carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”
