Television presenters Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty have revealed that they are ending their 12-year marriage. In a joint statement, Cat, 48, and Patrick, 54, announced: “We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved.”

The couple, who share two children, added: “We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected.”

In a lighthearted interview last year, Cat had poked fun at one aspect of their relationship, revealing the extensive skincare routine she follows to maintain her youthful appearance. Speaking to The Telegraph, she joked: “I go to bed like a greasy potato chip, you’ve never seen anything like it. It’s all over the pillows. Poor Paddy!”.

However, it has recently come to light that the couple had been living apart for most of the past year. A source told the Daily Mail that Cat and Patrick’s busy work schedules had put a significant strain on their marriage.

“It is such sad news,” the insider said. “They were so happy after they moved back to London, and would talk about their grand plans to renovate the house for the family.”

The source added that Patrick’s heavy workload, which includes commuting between Dublin for The Late Late Show and London for his weekly Radio 5 Live show, had taken a toll on their relationship. Additionally, Patrick has been coping with personal losses, including the deaths of his mother and aunt in the past year.

Onlookers noticed that Cat was absent from the mourners when Patrick carried his mother Mary’s coffin through their village in March. At the time, a spokesman explained: “Cat remained at home to be there for her two young children before and after school on this very sad day.”

Since February 2024, Cat’s schedule has been largely consumed by her commitment to ITV’s This Morning, resulting in the couple often passing each other “like ships in the night.”

During an appearance on the show, Cat revealed that she and Patrick frequently slept in separate bedrooms due to their conflicting schedules. She explained: “It’s one of those things – because of our schedule here [on This Morning], from Monday to Thursday I sleep in the guest bedroom and the rest of the time I’m back. Because otherwise I get up at 5am and I want to fall asleep earlier.”

Prior to accepting the This Morning role after lengthy negotiations at the end of 2023, Cat had been hosting So You Think You Can Dance for US TV, further increasing the physical distance between the couple.

Before the split was announced, Patrick had claimed that their conflicting schedules hadn’t been an issue, although he acknowledged that they “probably could have timed it better in terms of the juggle”.

Describing his Irish TV chat show as his “dream job,” he said “for the two of us to be doing two big shows like that is kind of mad”. Speaking to RSVP Magazine, he explained: “I’ve had my house in Dundrum [County Down] for 25 years now and I’ve always been back and forth. The kids are in school in London and Cat works in London, she’s there four days a week.”

He further mentioned that he and his wife had no intention of relocating permanently to Ireland, stating: “I can just about come to Dublin to do what I do, but she’s in ITV four days a week.”
